Well, I finally did it. I swapped in my CA license plate for a TN one. I am very sad to give up one of the last bits of (external) California-ness about me. But now, at least, when people curse at my bumper stickers, they won't be thinking "crazy Californian" but just "crazy liberal". So, you know, that's something.

Am still sick, though now in a head cold sort of way. So, I had a delightfully low key New Year's. (And reading back through past entries, this appears to be the fourth year in a row.) It was quite lovely, actually. I spent the evening putting together a new console table I bought at World Market (it was 50% off and thanks to gift cards I received for my birthday and Christmas I paid...nothing. I was unnaturally excited.). So anyway, finally finished putting the table together at like 11:30. Sacked out on the sofa to watch a Kathy Griffin special and Jenn called. 12 am rolled around while we were on the phone-- Not a bad way to start the new year-- talking with a good friend and laughing a lot.

I'm gearing up to get back to work. I have a department meeting at 8:30 am on Monday (I don't think I've ever been to work that early), but have lots of other stuff to do before then. Luckily, I'm pretty well prepared for the first couple of weeks of class (and, I'm only teaching one this semester-- hooray for a down-load!)-- But, I have some research I need to get up and running, plus a grant application. Busy times.
